- The team created a renowned joint replacement program at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus. They continue to use cutting-edge techniques in joint replacement and the highest quality prosthetics, like joint replacements produced by Zimmer Biomet and ConforMIS.
- The Orthopaedic Institute of Henderson specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. They stand above most other practices by offering outpatient joint replacement surgery in a surgery center setting. Patients rely on the team’s outstanding care for total hip replacements, total knee replacements, and other joint replacement procedures.

History
Who is OIH?
- The Orthopaedic Institute of Henderson (OIH) was founded in 1993 by Dr. Steven Hoer, MD. At the time, Henderson was a small town on the outskirts of Las Vegas with only one hospital—St. Rose de Lima. Fresh out of his orthopaedic training, Dr. Hoer set out to build a practice rooted in three core tenets: mastering surgical skills and clinical decision-making, building strong, dependable relationships with the hospital and local physicians, and delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Two years later, in 1995, Dr. Robert Tait—a Harvard-trained joint replacement specialist—joined the practice. Together, they established a model of advanced orthopaedic care combined with highly personalized treatment. Dr. Tait’s expertise quickly expanded the practice’s reach, drawing patients from Arizona, California, and communities throughout Nevada.
- As Henderson grew into one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, so did OIH. Additional physicians joined the team, drawn to the practice’s unique mission. Drs. Hoer and Tait strengthened their leadership within the local healthcare community, serving as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery while playing key roles in the development of St. Rose Siena Hospital.
- In 2019, Dr. Brad Wallis joined OIH, bringing not only additional joint replacement expertise but also valuable business and technology insight. He helped modernize operations, strengthen marketing and branding, and solidify OIH as a unified, physician-led institution. The practice continued to expand with new providers offering specialized care in sports medicine, trauma, and spine.
- Around the same time, OIH built strong partnerships with the Valley Health System and the newly developed West Henderson Hospital, further enhancing our ability to serve patients across the region.
- Today, more than 30 years after Dr. Hoer first opened the doors, OIH looks very different from that original small practice. Yet our commitment to his founding principles remains unchanged: clinical excellence in Orthopaedic care, collaborative leadership within the healthcare community, and unwavering focus on the patient at the center of every decision.
- Dr. Hoer’s legacy continues through a new generation of dedicated providers who carry forward the same values of dedication, integrity, and compassionate care.
